Healthy Mushroom Recipes for Kids

1. Mushroom Kebabs


For the Kebabs:

  • 1/2 kg potatoes
  • 25 gm mushrooms
  • 25 gm paneer
  • 1 Tbsp onion, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp green onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp green coriander, chopped
  • 1 tsp green chili, chopped
  • 3 pieces star anise
  • 1 tsp onion seeds (kalonjee)
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste

For Batter:

  • 250 gm gram flour (besan)
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp carom seeds (ajwain)


For the Kebabs:

  1. Boil the potatoes and mash them.
  2. Add in rest of the kebab ingredients and mix well.
  3. Make kebabs of the desired shape and keep aside.
  4. Add 1 cup water in gram flour and add in salt, cumin and carom seeds.
  5. Dip the kebabs in batter and coat well.
  6. Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the kebabs on low heat till they turn golden.
  7. Serve with ketchup.

2. Mushroom Pizza


  • 4 Portobello mushrooms
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 eggs
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 4 — 5 ounces bacon, cut into small cubes
  • 4 ounces finely grated cheese of your choice


  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Remove the stems of mushrooms and then use a spoon to gently scrape out the gills inside the mushroom.
  3. Brush the mushrooms lightly with olive oil and place them in a baking dish cap sides up.
  4. Roast the mushrooms for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Fry the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until crispy.
  6. Drain the bacon on paper towels and set aside.
  7. Whisk the eggs, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl just until the whites and yolks are blended.
  8. Melt the butter in a heavy nonstick pan over medium heat.
  9. Pour the egg mixture into the pan and turn the heat down to medium low.
  10. Scramble the eggs as per your liking. Remove from heat.
  11. Add the fried bacon into the just-scrambled eggs.
  12. Take the mushrooms and spoon 1/4 of the scrambled eggs on top of each mushroom.
  13. Top with grated cheese and serve.

3. Mushroom Rice


  • 1½ cup basmati rice
  • 200 g Button mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 medium size onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium size tomato, chopped
  • 1 medium size potato, peeled & cubed
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green cardamoms
  • 3 cloves
  • 4 black peppercorns
  • 1 inch cinnamon
  • 1 cup thick coconut milk + 1.5 to 2 cups water or 2.5 to 3 cups water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • salt


  1. Soak the rice for 20 to 30 mins.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, heat oil. Add all the whole spices and fry for a few seconds.
  3. Add the onions and fry them till translucent.
  4. Add the ginger-garlic paste and saute a little.
  5. Then add the chopped tomatoes, potatoes and mushrooms. Saute for 8-10 minutes till the mushrooms are half cooked.
  6. Add the soaked rice.
  7. Saute the rice on a low flame for 2 minutes.
  8. Add the coconut milk+water or plain water. Stir and add salt.
  9. Pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles.
  10. When the pressure settles down, take the rice out and fluff it a bit.
  11. Serve after garnishing with cilantro.

4. Stuffed Mushroom


  • 250 gms large button mushrooms with stem
  • 2 Tbsp garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 Tbsp onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper powder
  • 2 Tbsp fresh coriander
  • 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • Salt to taste


  1. Wash the mushrooms and remove the stalks.
  2. Core the cap.
  3. Heat butter in a pan, add garlic and onion. Saute for a minute. Add salt and pepper.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Let the filling cool down and add grated cheese and chopped coriander.
  6. Stuff the mixture in the mushroom caps and bake in at 220 degree Celsius for 4 minutes

5. Mushroom Manchurian


For the batter:

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp cornflour
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp soya sauce
  • ¾ cup water
  • salt & sugar to taste

For the Manchurian:

  • 200-250 gms button mushrooms
  • 3-4 spring onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp finely chopped garlic
  • 2 tsp finely chopped ginger
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 medium size green or yellow bell pepper, chopped
  • salt to taste


  1. Halve the mushrooms.
  2. Make the batter.
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Dip the mushrooms in batter and fry them till they turn golden. Keep aside.
  4. Add spring onion whites in a bowl and fry them for a minute.
  5. Then add the ginger, garlic and some of the spring onion greens.
  6. Fry again for a minute. Add salt, pepper and soy sauce.
  7. Mix properly and add the mushrooms to this sauce.
  8. Stir well and serve.
